Local Attractions: Many points of historic interest, including the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and the Roman Wall. Also located in 'The City' or financial district, so the area is considered very safe, even for walking around late at night. Due to the flat's proximity to the tube station (and being within Zone One and on the Circle Line), you can hop on and quickly be near any major attraction in central London: Buckingham Palace, Churchill's War Rooms, Whitehall, Parliament, Big Ben, Kensington Palace.
Just across the street, in addition to the Tower of London, is All Hallows by the Tower, a 1,500 year old church that has import for American as well as British history – William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, was baptized in the church as an infant, and John Quincy Adams, America’s 6th President and son of John Adams, America’s 2nd President, was married there in 1797. Tours of the church, which are offered free of charge, reveal among other things a 2,000 year old Roman road, part of the ancient Roman city of “Londinium”, that ran underneath the present site of the church.

The British Museum is a 10 min walk and the Charles Dickens Museum, housed in the building where he wrote Oliver Twist, is 1 minute away. London's West End with its fabulous shopping (Oxford St, Regent St), theatres, art galleries and landmarks (Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben) is close by. Covent Garden with its street theatre, opera house and shopping Piazza is an easy walk. Heading East, you can stroll around the City of London, Europe's financial centre with its famous buildings (St Paul's Cathedral, the Gherkin, Tower of London, Wren churches). Russell Square tube station (subway) is an 8 minute walk, allowing easy access to Buckingham Palace, St James' Park, Hyde Park (Princess Diana memorial fountain and kids playpark) and also to Heathrow Airport.

There is underfloor heating and double-glazing throughout making it warm in winter and cool in summer. The oak and granite farmhouse-style kitchen area is extremely well equipped, with a range cooker with gas hob and electric oven, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, Dualit Toaster, microwave, and washing machine. The sitting area and kitchen have slate floors and have large squashy sofas to relax into. This cottage has Wi-Fi which is fine for e-mailing and searching the web. Property 1219 The Old Winery, one of three cottages at Higher Wiscombe, sleeps 20 in 10 en-suite bedrooms, has two kitchens and sets on 52 acres of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It is ideal for large house parties, family “get-togethers”, birthday parties and anniversaries. The Old Winery was formerly an apple winery and is a unique, enormous and lavishly appointed barn. The entire building has underfloor heating and double-glazed windows making it warm in winter, with the slate floors keeping it cool in summer. There are two fully equipped kitchens to facilitate catering on a large scale and a large sitting room with lots of squashy sofas. The oak dining table can seat twenty with ease and can be extended to seat up to 32 when the other barns are booked in conjunction with the Old Winery. There is a large private garden, which is not overlooked, with a wonderful view of the unspoilt valley below.
